The Location - Kokkinos Pirgos Crete

Kokkinos Pirgos is located in the centre of southern Crete. It is a seaside settlement of Timbaki, a town very close to it, where it hosts the port of the region. It overlooks on one side the Libyan Sea, Agia Galini, and the small islands ''Paximadia'' and on the other side the largest mountain of Crete, Psiloritis. The climate in the area is particularly warm.

In front of the settlement there is a long sandy beach, with shallow waters, which has umbrellas and sunbeds, starting west of the settlement and extending for many kilometres to the east, as far as Kommos. The fact that the beach is home to Caretta Caretta sea turtles, which incubate their eggs in summer and are protected by the Organisation for the Protection of Sea Turtles, makes it world famous.

The beach of Kokkinos Pirgos is divided into two sections. The eastern part, from the port of Kokkinos Pirgos to the airport, is called Kataliki. Northwest of the port of Kokkinos Pirgos starts the long beach of Makrimaliana (also known as Kakoskalo), which extends to Agia Galini. To the west, there is a small harbour full of fishing boats. During the summer months it becomes a starting point for excursions to neighbouring beaches, with a boat that organizes excursions so that visitors can visit various heavenly beaches.

In the area there are several archaeological sites, interesting landscapes and routes, as well as taverns to taste traditional good Cretan food.

In this environment exists the hotel Astrinos, hospitable and clean, next to the sea, open all year round, for the tourist, the visitor, the traveler.
